💡 Grid Talk 1: Indonesia’s Smart Grid Outlook & Roadmap: Unifying Direction, Challenges, and Investment Opportunities

Jakarta, October 21, 2025 – As part of the DECAGRID International Symposium 2025 organized by the Indonesian Smart Network Association (PJCI), the Grid Talk 1 session raised the theme“Outlook & Roadmap: Opportunity, Challenge and Investment for Smart Grid.”

The event, which took place at the Auditorium on the 3rd floor of the HQ Office of PT PLN (Persero), became a strategic cross-sector forum that brought together the government, industry players, and research institutions to discuss policy directions, innovations, and investment opportunities in the development of smart electricity systems in Indonesia.

Experts from government, industry, and the private sector gathered to discuss opportunities, challenges, and investment directions in developing Indonesia’s Smart Grid for the next decade. Keynote Speaker Muhadi, ST, MT (Coordinator of Transmission, Distribution, and Isolated System Planning, DJK ESDM) opened the session with a presentation on strategies to strengthen the national electricity system to be more efficient and integrated. The discussion also presented several speakers, namely Elisabeth Tinschert (Energy Program Director, GIZ Indonesia), Rio Kaswiyanto (Project Finance Specialist, IET Implementation Joint Office), Eko Yudo Pramono (Executive Vice President of Power System Planning, PT PLN Persero), Rika Safrina (Senior Analyst of Energy Modeling and Policy Planning Department, ACE), Ismail Muttaqin (Technical Sales and Promotion Manager, Siemens), and Prof. Hammam Riza (Chairman of KORIKA).

Energy Policy and Investment Direction

The session opened with a keynote speech from Muhadi, ST, MT (Coordinator of Transmission, Distribution, and Isolated System Planning, DJK ESDM), who outlined strategies for strengthening the national electricity system to make it more efficient and integrated.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration between policy, technology, and investment to create a resilient and sustainable energy ecosystem. The government is also committed to expanding the use of renewable energy and encouraging green investment as a step toward national energy independence.

Panel Discussion: Collaboration Towards a Smart Energy Ecosystem

The main discussion was moderated by Daniel Tampubolon, Head of International Relations PJCI, and featured cross-sector experts who discussed smart grid implementation strategies in Indonesia. Speakers in this session include:

In this discussion, the speakers highlighted investment opportunities and challenges in smart electricity system integration, from policy and technology to funding. Conclusion: Synergy for the Future of National Energy

From the results of the discussion, it was concluded that the success of smart grid implementation depends on the synergy between government, academia, and industry. The use of digital technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), data analytics, and renewable energy integration are important elements in supporting energy security while reducing carbon emissions. Participants also emphasized the importance of adaptive regulatory support and strengthening human resource capacity to prepare Indonesia to face the challenges of global energy transformation.

The session closed with the presentation of mementos and a group photo of all speakers as a form of appreciation for their contributions in enriching insight and strengthening the direction of national energy collaboration. Through Grid Talk 1, PJCI emphasized its role as a forum for dialogue and collaboration in building a smart, resilient, and sustainable electricity system.
