Indonesian Delegation Presents ArGi at ISUW 2026: Energy System Solutions for Archipelagic Nations

New Delhi, April 8, 2026 – As part of the India Smart Utility Week (ISUW) 2026 series, the Indonesian delegation consisting of PJCI, MASTEL, and MKI actively contributed by presenting the strategic concept of the Archipelagic Grid Initiative (ArGi) in an international forum.

This participation not only reflects Indonesia’s presence in global forums but also reinforces its role as a country offering a unique perspective in developing archipelagic-based energy systems. The delegation’s presence was supported by Pamerindo Indonesia, APPI, and PT Prima Marina Tehnik as main sponsors.

Indonesia and the Complexity of Archipelagic Energy Systems

As an archipelagic country, Indonesia faces different challenges compared to countries with a single interconnected system.

In the Rise of Flexumers session, Ir. Bagus Setyawan, MBA from PJCI explained that Indonesia’s energy system consists of:

  • Large interconnected grids in the Java-Bali region
  • Isolated power systems on smaller islands
  • Development of renewable energy-based microgrids

This approach reflects both the complexity and opportunities in building an integrated national energy system.

ArGi: A New Approach for Archipelagic Energy Systems

To address these challenges, PJCI introduced:

Archipelagic Grid Initiative (ArGi)

A framework for developing archipelagic-based power systems designed with the following principles:

  • Distributed architecture
  • Hybrid renewable microgrids
  • Staged system evolution
  • Sandbox-based learning

This approach enables gradual system development aligned with the needs and readiness of each region.

Flexumers: A New Role in the Energy Ecosystem

Global energy transformation is also marked by the emergence of flexumers—users who are not only consumers but also active participants in the energy system.

In Indonesia, this development is driven by:

  • Increasing adoption of rooftop solar
  • Growth of electric vehicles
  • Development of vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology

This concept opens opportunities for a more participatory and responsive energy system.

ASEAN Power Grid and the Future of Regional Integration

Beyond national development, Indonesia also sees significant opportunities in strengthening regional cooperation through the ASEAN Power Grid.

In the future, this interconnection will not only facilitate cross-border energy trade but also potentially evolve into a system that supports regional energy flexibility.

Bringing Solutions from Indonesia to the World

Indonesia’s participation in India Smart Utility Week (ISUW) 2026  demonstrates that the country is not only part of the global energy transition but also actively contributing relevant solutions.

Through ArGi, Indonesia presents an energy system approach that is not only applicable nationally but also has the potential to serve as a reference for other archipelagic nations.
